About Mark Luff

Hi, I’m Mark.

I’m a licensed professional counselor who works with adults who feel stuck — especially individuals untangling the impact of a rigid or legalistic faith background, and men navigating shame around porn use. Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable people who’ve tried to figure things out on their own, but keep running into the same patterns that strain their relationships and leave them feeling disconnected from their values.

My style is conversational, relational, and spiritually informed without being pushy. I use EMDR to help you heal the old wounds that keep showing up in the present, and ACT to help you reconnect with the person you want to be. If faith is part of your story, I’m able to integrate it in whatever capacity is actually helpful — whether that means speaking directly from Scripture, exploring spiritual hurt, or simply that you relax knowing that I understand your background without you needing to explain it.

Above all, I want you to feel seen as a person, not a problem. My goal is to help you find clarity, reduce shame, and move toward a life that finally feels aligned and meaningful again.

My Approach

Therapy, to me, is a lot like stepping onto a trail with someone. You may be carrying a heavy pack — old experiences, shame, faith questions, relationship strain — and you’re trying to make sense of the terrain. I’m here to help you sort through that pack, lighten what you don’t need, and navigate the path ahead with more confidence.

I earned my Master’s in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary and I’m trained in EMDR, the Gottman Method for couples work, and multiple evidence-based approaches that I’ve used over nearly a decade of clinical experience. I rely on strong guiding principles.

But, here’s the thing: I have never been on a backpacking trip that went exactly according to plan. Someone breaks an ankle, and we have to carry them out. I get stung by a swarm of bees and dosed with a ton of Benadryl that knocks me out for a day. Trails change, weather surprises you, and what looked straightforward suddenly isn’t.

I have a mental map of what achieves mental health, but I don’t know the twists and turns in your story yet. I may have an exceptional treatment plan, and then you share something new that shifts us onto an alternative path. The good news is that my favorite kind of work is highly individualized, flexible care, adapted to your needs.

Why I love Counseling

I love Counseling because I love freedom. This value orients most areas of my life. The freedom to make decisions according to my values, choose how and with whom I spend my time and the freedom to adapt as situations arise. And I love watching freedom unfold for others. In the counseling process, you experience freedom, sometimes for the first time. Freedom from obstacles that prevent you from pursuing your goals. Freedom from the pain of traumatic memories. Freedom from walls that sever your relationships.
